I am quite certain that when Ren and I said our marriage vows to each other nearly 35 years ago, no where did it say "I will love and support you as an entrepreneur through the start up of your new business'.
Because we never dreamed that would be part of either of our lives.
Because 'entrepreneur' was a word I had never heard- let alone knew how to spell.
But here we are- both of us in businesses that we started ourselves. I remember when Rennie started "All Things New," an automotive appearance repair business now based in Lima, we had a lot of transitions to make.
We went from a regular salary to a very uncertain income.
We went from a career we had both trained our whole lives for to something brand new for him.
We went from a career we were involved in together to being in two different worlds.
It was/is a challenging time! We are weathering it together!
Now, even though I officially started Green Hope Coaching 3 years ago- I am technically just getting started. Last month's newsletter explained much of my process to you so I won't go back to that. But we are back to uncertain income- and a new career that takes us two different directions.
Ren has been an incredible support through this whole process. He has supported me through the Ropp Triplett Business plan competition from January-March. He helped me get things set up for my groups. He has cheered me on and up when I got discouraged. He has run the vacuum and fixed a lot of his own meals. He's even washed the dishes-over and over and over!
I know a lot of people might think that I'm not cutting it as a wife and so I am putting a lot of undo strain on him. That might be very true!
But Ren doesn't make me feel that way.
In so many ways he has shown me that he believes in me! In my gifts! In my dream! In my voice!
Even though it means that he has to do his work and some of mine! Even though he's put me to bed completely rung out some days! Even though he's the one sacrificing in lot's of ways!
That's the beauty of the dance! When Ren was starting ATN, I was his cheerleader, and handled lot's of things at home while he was connecting with car dealers and private individuals to generate business. Now he is doing it for me!
I am so grateful for who he is- and who I am because of his encouragement and support in my life.
Who is leading this dance? Well, it still takes both of us! If either of us pulled our support of the other- or tried to dominate the other- the dance would not work. But we both give! We both take! Some days we do a solo dance, other days it's a slow dance, and even other days it's a swing dance!
The important thing is we have been each other's partner for nearly 35 years of marriage. Everyday has it's challenges and it's joys. We don't always get it right. But we are still dancing together!
