Hello Kathy,

Today we are celebrating!

Seven years ago (1/11/11), I sent out my first ever business newsletter introducing the launch of GREEN HOPE COACHING with KATHY BURRUS.

Seven is often called a 'perfect number'. God created the earth in 6 days and on the 7th he called it good and he rested. I've spoken to a number of entrepreneurs who, along the way, encouraged me not to give up in my effort to create a thriving business. It took most of them seven years to establish their business before they found their 'good'.

Much of these past seven years has been good. I have been privileged to work with amazing women, men and couples as clients and peers. It has been an honor to walk with them as they overcame tremendous losses and found victory in their best next steps.

It hasn't been without it's challenges though- namely, me! I never dreamed of being an entrepreneur. It wasn't something I imagined or had on a bucket list for 'someday'. GHC came about as I wrestled to re-discover who I was after our daughter died and we left the only career I had ever dreamed of doing.

Life happens that way sometimes. We have a plan- a really good plan, then circumstances change, or tragedy happens and we are forced to do life very differently.

Yet out of that mess, I was able to partner with many others who are struggling to move past their own issues. I personally experienced some transformational mindset shifts such as...

I am not the role I am doing. Whether it is wife, mom, pastor's wife, worship leader or coach, the role is not who I am. It is merely the place where ALL that I am is learning, growing and serving.
ALL that I am means that I bring to the table the beautiful and the not so beautiful parts of me and my story. Embracing ALL is what is REAL about me and being real is where I will make my biggest difference in my very real, sometimes messy, but always incredible world.
God is very real and very intimately involved in my journey to know ALL that I am and in turn, better know ALL that He is. "God is the only context in which our being makes sense." (Dr David Benner)

I reflect and rejoice at all that has been part of re-teaching me these truths. But for the past year, I have become increasingly discontent. As I tried to take steps forward, I felt confined and began to 'throw elbows' in an effort to break free of ...I wasn't sure what.

As I pondered my thoughts, worked with my own coaches and shared conversations with friends, I began to realize that when I published my book, Lovely Traces of Hope, I was able to put down much of the burden of grief. Not only had the book fulfilled a charge I had received- in part from one chapter Leisha left for us in the back of her journal, but also from a 'word' I sensed from the Lord the day after she died. Write down what you have seen - both the things that are now happening and the things that will happen. (Revelation 1:19)

Writing helped me process the events, but more importantly the intimate ways God revealed himself to me in the black of it all. I began to come to terms with how life had changed me and began to release the spirit of despair and instead put on the crown of beauty, the oil of gladness and the garment of praise. (Isaiah 61:3)

My business is called GREEN HOPE COACHING With KATHY BURRUS. For the past seven years, I have been working, serving, growing the GREEN HOPE COACHING side to help people see green hope in a brown world. I have cherished that opportunity and will continue to serve in that way, partly because I get the importance of it, but largely because loss is inevitable for all of us. I know how hard it is to find hope in those dark times. It can feel lonely, but we do not need to walk alone.

But Kathy Burrus, the person, has been reawakened after what has been a very long dark night of the soul. I'm delighted to share with you that KATHY BURRUS, the business, is being reborn as well.

Lord willing, and my DIY efforts successful, KATHYBURRUS.COM will open its doors on Thursday, 1/18/18 to partner with women who are ready to take their best next steps forward.

I believe each one of us is uniquely qualified to make a remarkable difference in our world. It may be similar to what someone else is doing, but because of where our journeys have taken us - ALL that we are- our skills, abilities, dreams, passions and stories are part of what is influencing and changing the lives and circumstances around us. No one can do it exactly like we do it.

Yes, the past seven years have changed me, but mostly they have affirmed who I am in so many ways. I feel like me again! No, that doesn't mean I've arrived. It doesn't mean that things are easy now.

But I am free to take on whatever role falls to me - as me- personally or professionally.

I am Kathy Burrus: asker of deep questions, seeker of real stories, supporter of remarkable people.

In November, I accepted the challenge to interview 100 REMARKABLE WOMEN in an effort to better know how to serve you; your dreams, goals and needs. I have not reached my goal of 100 interviews yet, but over the past 2 months, I have had the privilege of speaking with amazing women who are truly taking their skills, abilities and influence to the next level.

REMARKABLE: worthy of being noticed as being uncommon and extraordinary

These women are not necessarily remarkable because they have cured cancer or brought about world peace, though I will tell you that there are many who are accomplishing great things in the area of wellness, relationships and leadership on community and global platforms.

The women are remarkable because they dare to

BE who they were made to BE
Do what they were made to DO
and have the courage to do it afraid.

So far, the majority of women I have talked to do not necessarily feel remarkable. For most, they feel that what they do is ordinary and anyone can do it. Except that not just anyone can do what they do - in the way that they do.

These women are doing what comes next to the best of their ability every chance they get. That my friends is a great definition of excellence.

Excellence makes us worthy of being noticed as uncommon and extraordinary.

That's remarkable!
