You have been on my heart often this Holiday. This time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is called the Advent Season. It is that time of year when we are reminded...

What a mystery! I don't know if you use an advent calendar or devotional guide during this season, but this year I chose a book called "God With Us: Rediscovering the Meaning of Christmas".
Last week, as I decorated the Christmas tree at my house, I noticed how different this year was from last year. I was struck by the changes in life, health, relationships, etc.. It emphasized the importance of reflecting which we often do as one year ends and another begins. But my advent reading challenged me to consider that during the calendar year (particularly advent) ...
"the eternal significance of our days becomes crucial to our apprehending how, now and ever, God is with us."
Our 'remembering' of these holy days (holidays) goes way deeper than recalling historical events. This is not just the story of a coming of a baby. We begin to understand that the flesh God became was our own flesh. He came as that baby here to our world, not just to provide redemption for us then, but to build a relationship with us now.
God WITH us! God present RIGHT NOW, in this day, right where you are!

HOPE AND HEALING IN THE HOLIDAYS
Last month, I spoke to a group at Shawnee Alliance Church in cooperation with Bayliff Funeral Home in Cridersville. The event was called HOPE AND HEALING IN THE HOLIDAYS. I think we all know the holidays are a time where whatever is not right with our world is amplified a 'gazillion' times. No speech by anyone is going to make that kind of pain better.
As I was speaking, my eyes would connect with this woman or that couple. I longed to sit with each person to listen to their story and hear their heart. Since then I have had the privilege of hearing from so many who are carrying great burdens this Christmas. They share their loss, their heartache, their despair, and their journey to hope.
As I sat listening to a friend tell her story, I began reflecting on my own journey to hope. I recalled how that same dark grief tunnel used to be my home. In Lovely Traces of Hope, I shared that God had laid out small slivers of green hope along the way to lead me out of the darkness. But as I pondered from this place - outside of the tunnel, I noticed that the light was not little green lights outside of myself but rather light coming from within me that was being reflected in the chards of glass in the mud. The phrase that kept coming to mind was...
"Christ in me, the hope of glory!"
Christ IN me! God WITH us!
It is not just then - it is NOW! The words of John 1:14 (above) resonate even stronger. "He made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only son."
Today. Where have you seen his glory today?
How is he being reflected through you in this season?
My prayer for you this season is one I pray for you all year round.
May the God of Green Hope fill you up with joy, fill you up with peace, so that your believing lives, filled with the life-giving energy of the Holy Spirit, will brim over with hope. (Romans 15:13 MSG)

While this newsletter has primarily been focused on Hope in the Holidays, I am excited to share with you some new things that are coming up. I'll give you a lot more details next month, but for now, I want to tell you about a research study I am doing based on you - the REMARKABLE WOMAN.
I am interviewing 100 remarkable women who are moving forward and finding 'success’ in their life, relationships, business, etc. One thing I have noticed from just the few interviews I have done so far is that most women don't consider themselves to be remarkable.

The thing is, these are women who are on my remarkable list in one way or another. I see them that way. It breaks my heart that they do not. Yet thanks to lessons learned in my own recent journey, I completely understand how life gets in the way of our owning who we truly are.
So...as I make preparations for some new material that I will introduce in January, I am interviewing 100 women to see if we can
- define what remarkable really means
- understand the obstacles that get in the way of being remarkable
- create some new ways to embrace being remarkable and live our lives remarkably.
